Building the biggest iBeacon Living Lab with WSO2 – Rutger van Iperen
In this session we will describe the iBeacon Living lab that we are developing in the consortium together with partners like KPN, Gemeente Amsterdam, JC Decaux, Glimworm Beacons and so on. This will be the world’s biggest iBeacon deployment in the world (over 2500 beacons in Amsterdam in 2016). Beacons are small radio devices that send out a Bluetooth Low Energy signal that can be picked up by smartphones and offer the promise of improved (accurate) location based services. Our focus will be on the connection layer (making the connection from the beacon to the mobile device), describe the possibility of beacons within several sectors like retail, hospitality, museums and so on. During the presentation we will define a new API to the beacons that we placed in the room. The audience can suggest content to be linked to the beacons. After the presentation we will demonstrate the system. Goal is to show how easy it is to integrate beacons in mobile applications. All development is done with standard open source components like WSO2 API Manager, WSO2 ESB and WSO2 DSS.
